Afterwards, Jenny makes her way to the top floor, where she deals with a live stove, uses a train set to reveal a secret passageway, and fixes a dumbwaiter, which she uses to make her way to the basement. As crisp orange leaves blanket DJ’s suburban neighborhood the day before Halloween, his portly pal Chowder ponders what costume he’ll wear on the big day. But DJ is preoccupied with other things, specifically a cranky neighbor who bolts from his rickety house to chase children off his property and take their toys. When DJ ventures onto Mr. Nebbercracker’s lawn to retrieve a basketball, the scowling old man accosts him and promptly keels over. The house sees its caretaker carted off, which inflames its already seething anger.

Beneath that rotten surface, however, there lies a sad man with justifiable reasons as to why he would behave horribly grumpy.All spoilers are unmarked. As in most ghost stories, the fright stands in for other emotions — grief, disappointment, loneliness — and the film’s climactic sequences combine hair-raising sensation with dreamy and delicate pathos. The plain suburban setting becomes (as it did in “E.T.” and Mr. Zemeckis’s “Back to the Future” movies) a zone of enchantment, in no small part because it seems so real. They, much like other people, do not appear to believe the boys at all, but are simply doing their job to make sure they don't get hurt. In the aftermath, the quartet gather at the house's still-intact basement, returning everything Nebbercracker stole to their rightful owners. During the credits after everyone leaves, the house's victims emerge from the basement unharmed, including Bones, who discovers that Zee is now dating Skull. Jenny isn't too crazy about DJ at first, but by the end of the film, they become boyfriend and girlfriend to some extent. Jenny Bennett is the tritagonist of the 2006 film Monster House. She is an intelligent 11-year-old girl who attends an all-girl school named Westbook Prep who becomes DJ Walters' girlfriend.

They make a plan to find the heart and put out the fire while Chowder asks if there is more options. Which DJ agrees; wait and do nothing until the house finds out where they are and it will eat them, Chowder disagrees with that idea and goes on with the plan to find the heart and put the fire out. DJ finds binoculars on the wall near a small hatch to the door and he realizes that Nebbercracker has been watching him the whole time while he was trying to get Chowder's ball back. Jenny then shows DJ a set of photos with Nebbercracker and his late wife, then DJ says to Jenny that he used to have a wife, but he fattened her up and ate her, much to Jenny's disgust. In the basement DJ finds a locked cage containing the remains of Nebbercracker’s wife (a rotund concrete form that, cracked open, reveals the woman’s skeleton). Fending off eggs and other projectiles one day, she staggered to the edge of the foundation and accidentally fell to her death in the cellar many feet below, followed by a splash of cement (all shown in flashback).
Exploring the bowels of the house, Jenny ends up fighting off more possessed furniture, and meets up with DJ. The two ultimately locate Chowder and encounter the remains of Constance, then attempt to extinguish the furnace, without success, after which, giant pipes capture each of them. Jenny then traverses the section Chowder recently explored, where she gets sucked up by another pipe. DJ later finds Jenny trapped in the vents while exploring the second floor; after rotating the room they are in, he tries to free her, to no avail, requiring Jenny to find another way out.
Jenny explains to Chowder that the chandelier is the uvula and it stimulates the gag reflex and everyone has a uvula. The house then dozes off again and the search light disappears. Those moments are joined by scenes of ferocious conflict and intense peril. Bones is lured into the house to retrieve a kite taken from him as a boy—bait snatched away again as the house consumes him.
DJ is given the dynamite, and he and Jenny get accidentally thrown into the huge pit where a lake has been drained. Chowder managed to bring the house down into the pit where it crumbled to pieces. Thinking that they have won, they cheered until the house starts to reconstruct itself by making it a deformed monstrosity.
